Upanishad means the inner or mystic teaching. The term Upanishad is derived from upa (near), ni (down) and s(h)ad (to sit), i.e., sitting down near. Groups of pupils sit near the teacher to learn from him the secret doctrine. In the quietude of the forest hermitages the Upanishadic rishis pondered on the problems of deepest concerns and communicated their knowledge to fit pupils near them. Samkara derives the word Upanishad as a substitute from the root sad, 'to loosen.,' 'to reach' or 'to destroy' with Upa and ni as prefixes and kvip as termination. If this determination is accepted, upanishad means Brahmic knowledge by which ignorance is loosened or destroyed. The treatises that deal with Brahmic knowledge are called the Upanishads, and they are also known as the Vedanta. The different derivations together make out that the Upanishads give us both spiritual vision and philosophical argument. There is a core of certainty which is essentially incommunicable except by a way of life. It is by a strictly personal effort that one can reach the truth.  
 
The Upanishads more clearly set forth the prime Vedic doctrines like self-realization, yoga and meditation, karma and reincarnation, which were hidden or kept veiled under the symbols of the older mystery religion. The older Upanishads are usually affixed to a particularly Veda, through a Brahmana or Aranyaka. The more recent ones are not. The Upanishads became prevalent some centuries before the time of Krishna and Buddha.  
 
The main figure in the Upanishads, though not present in many of them, is the sage Yajnavalkya. Most of the great teachings of later Hindu and Buddhist philosophy derive from him. He taught the great doctrine of "neti-neti", the view that truth can be found only through the negation of all thoughts about it. Other important Upanishadic sages are Uddalaka Aruni, Shvetaketu, Shandilya, Aitareya, Pippalada, Sanat Kumara. Many earlier Vedic teachers like Manu, Brihaspati, Ayasya and Narada are also found in the Upanishads.  
 
In the Upanishads the spiritual meanings of the Vedic texts are brought out and emphasized in their own right.</div>

Meaning of 'Upanishad'</h3>

It points to a period in time when groups of pupils sat near the teacher and learnt from him the secret teachings in the quietude of forest 'ashrams' or hermitages. In another sense of the term, 'Upanishad' means 'brahma-knowledge' by which ignorance is annihilated. Some other possible meanings of the compound word 'Upanishad' are "placing side by side" (equivalence or correlation), a "near approach" (to the Absolute Being), "secret wisdom" or even "sitting near the enlightened".</div>

Historians and Indologists have put the date of composition of the Upanishads from around 800 - 400 B.C., though many of the verse versions may have been written much later. In fact, they were written over a very long period of time and do not represent a coherent body of information or one particular system of belief. However, there is a commonality of thought and approach.</div>

The crux of the Upanishads is that this can be achieved by meditating with the awareness that one's soul ('atman') is one with all things, and that 'one' is 'Brahman', which becomes the 'all'.</div>

(સત્સંગના માં સમાન સદ્દગુરુ મુક્તાનંદ સ્વામીનૉ જન્મ સવંત ૧૮૧૪ ને મહા  સુદ પાચમના રોજ માતા રાધાબા અને પીતા આનંદ રામને ત્યા થયો હતો. સ્વામી સંસારનૉ ત્યાગ કરવા જાણીને ગાંડાની જેમ વર્ત્યા, ઘેરથી રજા મળતા સાચા સદગુરુની શોધમા ખુબ ફર્યા, અંતે નિરાશ થઇ ઝાડ પરથી શરીર પડતુ મુકી આત્મહત્યા કરવાના વિચર સાથે ઝાડ પર ચડ્યા ત્યારે આકાશ વાણીએ સરધાર જવનૂ કહ્યુ. પછી સરધાર માં તુલસીદાસ વૈરાગીની જગ્યામાં રહ્યા. થોડા સમય બાદ ત્યાં રામાનંદ સ્વામી આવતા તેમને શરણે થયા.) <o:p></o:p></div>

આ કિર્તનમાં બ્રહ્મરસને મન ભર પી ને બેઠેલા સ્વામી પોતની  અનુભવ વણી વહેતી મુકે છે. <o:p></o:p></div>

આ કિર્તનની રચના નુ મુળ સંત મુળદાસના ભજન "અનુભવી ને એકલુ આનંદમા રહેવુ રે..."મા જણાય છે. જે એ બ્રહ્મ રસને પીવે છે તે સદા આનંદમાં રહે છે. તેવા જીવન મુક્ત મહાપુરુષનુ જીવન સદા નિરોગી થઇ જાય છે. <o:p></o:p></div>

સમગ્ર માનવ જાત ત્રણ ગુણ-સત્વ રજ અને તમ-ની ત્રીપુટીમાં રમે છે જયારે મહા પુરુશો આ ત્રીપુટિ તોડી બ્રહ્મ ગગનમાં વિહરે છે. માનવ જીવનની અનેક ભુમીકાઓ છે, વિષયમાં લોલુપ્ત લોકો દેહની ભુમીકામાં જીવે છે, મનૉવિગ્જ્ઞાનીઓ-ફ્રોઇડ, એરિસ્ટોટલ, પ્લેટૉ- વગેરે મનની ભુમીકામાં રમે છે વેદાન્તીઓ આત્માની ભુમીકામાં જીવે છે, જ્યારે મહાપુરુશો આ દરેકથી પર પરમાત્માના સમીપ્યમા જીવે છે.<o:p></o:p></div>

ગોપાળાનંદ સ્વામી વતોમાં લખે છે "કાળૉ કાંકરો અને ધોળો કાંકરો એમ બે કાંકરા અને સોનાની લગડી પાસે પડ્યા હોય તો મન કાંકરામાં ન લલચાય" એટલે કે શરીરમાં ન બંધાય પણ આત્મામાં પણ ન બંધાય. <o:p></o:p></div>

આવા સંતો પણ સમાજમાં રહે છે પરંતુ સમાજના વિક્ષેપો તેના મન પ્રદેશથી ઉપર જઇ શક્તા નથી. તે મનના તમામ ક્રુત્યોની અસારતા સારિ રીતે સમજે છે. જ્ઞાની-વિજ્ઞાનીઓ જગતની રચના-રહસ્યો જાણવા મથે છે જ્યરે સ્વામી કહે છે કે અનૂભવી મહાત્મા તો ગુરુ આજ્ઞામા અલમસ્ત થઇ પ્રભુના સુખે સુખિયા થાય છે. આ કિર્તનના બિજા ત્રણ પદ પણ આવા જ મરમી છે.<o:p></o:p></div>
